Marcelo Cavazos began his career as an English teacher in Mission CISD in 1990 and has worked at McAllen ISD, Mercedes ISD and San Benito CISD, as well as the Texas Education Agency. He joined Arlington ISD as associate superintendent for instruction in 1999 and has served as superintendent since December of 2012. He has also served as a lecturer for the University of Texas at Arlington’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and was named 2016 Texas Superintendent of the Year.
