James S. Liebman, is Founding Director of the Columbia Center for Public Research and Leadership and Simon H. Rifkind Professor of Law at Columbia University. From 2006 to 2009, he served the New York City’s Department of Education’s Division of Accountability and Achievement Resources, including the City’s summative and formative assessment programs, the design and implementation of a path-breaking systems of school evaluation for improvement including the establishment of inquiry teams in over 1500 schools to use feedback from every-day experience to improve student learning, and the design and deployment of a citywide instructional data system that won the 2009 Government Technology Magazine and Digital Government Award for Overall Excellence in Technology. Jim previously served as Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense of Educational Fund and law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
